{of Pride & Prejudice}

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”  ― Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice turned 200 years old yesterday.

{Confession} I have read Pride & Prejudice, fully at least five times, with many partial readings since.

Favorite Quote: “A lady’s imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment.”

I can honestly say it’s my favorite book.

Can you imagine having something you’ve written affecting audiences for 200+ years? A book that goes on to impact the world long after you are gone?

Her character development, the witty verbal tongue lashings, the sarcasm, the English setting–all things that work together to make this an instant classic.

Miss Elizabeth Bennet is a heroine who’s quick wit and fun-loving personality keeps her relevant even in today’s world.

“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.”

“What are men to rocks and mountains?”

Mr Darcy is a proud, rich young man that starts off his role in the book as well a snob.

“She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me, and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men.”

But by the end of the book both characters are developed, lives are intertwined and inevitably love is in the air.

If you have not taken the time to read this lovely novel, let me encourage you–take the time to read it. You will not regret it!

On Judging

{my all time favorite book} Pride & Prejudice

There are many many lessons to be learned from this book.

Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth both judge each other from a distance.

They make their conclusions and proceed to place each other in a box.

The make assumptions, jump to conclusions, and judgments are passed.

Are you judgmental? I am.

I see people and instantly know I have them figured out.

I see what people are wearing and make snap decisions about their character.

I hear what people talk about so obviously I know their heart.

I judge…a lot.

It’s amazing how people change when you take the time to get past the judgement and get to know them.

Assumptions…well we all know what those do ;)

and I love how people “improve on closer acquaintance” {Elizabeth Bennett ~P&P}

stop the judging; take the time to get to know people
